From 1727, the Yongzheng Emperor introduced a system of opaque and transparent colours further dividing the ranks, and from 1730 glass started to replace precious stones. The present lot includes a transparent blue glass knob designating a third-rank official, an opaque blue glass knob for a fourth-rank official and a clear transparent glass knob for a fifth-rank official.
