Height: 68" Width: 37 3/8" Jin Tingbiao (金廷標; Qing Dynasty 1720-1760) framed Chinese traditional painting, ink and color on silk, signed.Splendid painting on silk of a bustling troop of Manchurians traversing fertile plains, by Jin Tingbiao (1720-1760). Jin Tingbiao produced his paintings during the Qing Dynasty which emperor Qianlong presided over. In this work both brown and white steeds bear up archers, messengers, and a single leader accompanied by his wife. Each figure is of rich detail slowly being built up layer-by-layer upon the silk surface. Flanking the soldiers are several large gnarled trees. Each tree is detailed with very fine foliage. Signed and stamped with a single red seal on the right side. This painting has been secured within a wooden frame, and set behind glass. PROVENANCE: From the heirloom collections of Wu Guozhen (吳國楨; October 21, 1903-June 6, 1984) was a Chinese political figure and historian, government official who served as mayor of Hankow (1932-1938), mayor of Chung-king (1939-1941), political vice minister of foreign affairs (1943-45), mayor of Shanghai (1946-1948), and governor of Taiwan (1950-1952) and the former Chairman of Taiwan Provincial Government. He resigned in 1953 and went to the United States, charging that Taiwan was becoming a police state.K.C. Wu lived in the United States where he served as professor of Chinese history at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.
