宗喀巴為藏傳佛教格魯派創始人，清代皇室崇信藏傳佛教，自順治皇帝以後均支持格魯派在西藏地區的統治地位，大量製作、供奉宗喀巴像，除皇宮內苑和避暑山莊佛堂外，原為雍正皇帝潛邸的皇家寺院雍和宮中亦供有多尊。宗喀巴像神情莊重肅穆，鼻樑高挺，身著華美的僧衣，全跏趺坐於單層蓮座之上，底部為梯形寶台。雙手當胸結說法印。造像工藝細緻，僧衣領口、衣緣分別鏨刻不同紋飾，衣紋垂褶線條流暢。
