在藏传佛教中，众多修行者认为钺刀能够断灭一切观念，代表着“便智双运”这一甚深佛理中的“方便”。当钺刀与代表“智慧”的嘎巴拉碗结合在一起时，意味着方法源自于智慧。此件金刚钺刀刀身由天铁制成，最下为带有弯钩的半月形刀刃，其上为摩羯龙头。摩羯怒目睁视，呲牙伸舌，大嘴张开紧紧咬住刀刃。再向上为八瓣莲花，莲瓣饱满细长，其上为金刚杵头。金刚杵杵股弧线优美，颇具装饰效果。整件钺刀工艺精湛，刻画细致，所具备的宗教本质也非常殊胜，是一件兼具艺术价值和宗教价值的佛教法器精品。
