Mid 3rd century BC-1st century AD. A carved oval disc gem accompanied by a copy of a typed, and signed scholarly note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Inscribed disc of yellow quartz, 15 x 21 x 3mm. Five lines of meaningless script. Magic or Gnostic, from Eastern Mediterranean, c. 250 B.C. to 100 A.D.' 2.03 grams, 21mm (3/4"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s; inventory number 54. Very fine condition.
