Late 3rd-2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seals including eight accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: T-1) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 40.5 x 40 x 14 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which a handle of inverted U-shape is mounted. The design is both compartmented and open-work. It consists of a central Greek cross joined to the outer rim by three splaying struts and a cross-bar joins the outer ones of each three. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with thick incrustation and the rim is a little dented, otherwise it is in good condition.'; T-812) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 39 x 40 x 14 mm. This has the shape of a Greek cross, with flat compartmented face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design is a Greek cross with fillings: a central circle joined to the inner angles of the cross, and two lines towards the outer end of each arm across the arms. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is an unusual design, and is in very good condition save for damage to the end of one arm.'; T-813) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 48 x 49 x 17 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a linear design within a plain outer band: three parallel lines in one direction, and two parallel lines at 90° each side of the three. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with incrustation, which could be removed, and the rim is dented, but generally the piece is in fair condition. The pressed earth and incrustation on the surface could be removed.'; N-10) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 43 x 41 x 16 mm. This is roughly round with scalloped outer edge, with flat face and back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The face, which is partly open-work, partly compartmented , has a Greek cross in the middle joining to outer band, which is shaped by four L-shapes defining the cross. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is not one of the most common types, and the metal is in good condition, but the outer rim is largely worn off.'; R-891) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 56 x 56 x 15 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design is both compartmented and open-work. It consists of a central simple cross joined to an outer band which each of which is a smaller crescent attached to the outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with incrustation which could be removed. It appears that the metal is in good condition. Save for some wear to the outer rim the whole is in good condition.'; C-3) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 50 x 49 x 16 mm. This is roughly round, compartmented and open-work, with a loop handle on the back. the design divides the circle into four quarters with two crossing lines, and each such line has two pairs of diagonal lines connecting it with the outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The metal is in good condition, but there is s slight dent (done in antiquity) on one side.'; V-787) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 40 x 41 x 17 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design, which is compartmented and open-work, consists of a central small circle joined to a plain outer band by five short struts supporting each a crescent reaching the outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The outer rim is a little dented, otherwise the piece is in very good condition.'; V-788) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 51 x 51 x 16 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design, which is both open-work and compartmented, consists of a small central circle joined by four V-bands to a plain outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The rim is dented and there is some incrustation on the surface, but it is in fair condition.' 274 grams total, 38-56mm (1 1/2 - 2 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
