Description

Late 3rd-2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seals including six accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: T-986) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 34 x 34 x 25 mm. This is a round disc with stalk handle mounted on the back, ending in a round pierced loop. The design on the face, done in raised lines, consists of central scrolling motif, and around it five domes based on the edge, two with strokes from the edge rising within them, and one free-standing circle and one such curving stoke. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. It is a fine example of its kind and in excellent state of preservation.'; T-838) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 26 x 25 x 23 mm.This is a round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a stalk handle ending in a round loop. The design on the face consists of a central dot within a circle, a circle which is joined to the outer rim by eight struts. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. There is incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, but the metal beneath appears to be in very good condition, as is the whole seal.'; T-711) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 31 x 31 x 26 mm. This is a round, with flat face and convex back, in the middle of which is a thick stalk handle, thinning to the top where it ends in a pierced loop. The design on the face is in raised lines and consists of a shape like a Greek Qoppa surrounded by six looping lines based on the outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. The outer rim is worn down, otherwise the piece is in good condition.'; T-454) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 23 x 22 x 21 mm. This has a round flat, compartmented face, and a back which rises sharply to a pierced loop handle. The design on the face is linear and consists of a motif of curving lines and two crescents based on the rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. There is incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, and the piece is generally in good condition save for damage to the rim.'; R-899) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 36 x 35 x 28 mm.This has a flat face with five arms reaching out from the centre, each cut off at right-angles, and a tall handle of roughly square cross-section, pierced near the top. The design on the face is not easy to interpret ,but it may represent a standing bird below a quadruped with human riding on its back. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1600 B.C. It is a rare type and in fair condition.'; U-367) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 24 x 23 x 19.5 mm.This is a round disc with flat face and slightly convex back on which is mounted a stalk handle ending in a loop. The design on the face consists of a major curving stoke starting from the edge and ending in the middle, to which other strokes from the edge point or join. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. The rim is worn down, and there is incrustation on the surface which could be removed, but generally it is fair condition.' 225 grams total, 23-36mm (3/4 - 1 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s. [10] Fine condition.
