A carved schist arcaded frieze fragment of three columns with pedestals and stacked capitals; between these, two scrolled arches, within each a standing figure in a loose robe. 5.9 kg, 39cm (15 1/4"). From an Oxfordshire collection; formerly acquired on the UK art market; acquired prior to 1980. Schist is a medium-grade metamorphic rock with medium to large grains of mica flakes in a preferred orientation (nearby mica flakes are roughly parallel"). Fine condition.
