2nd millennium BC. A cast tubular socket with collar and protuberance to the upper rear, scroll to rear; the blade asymmetric, convex with hooked upper end; with later wooden shaft for display. Cf. Muscarella, O. W. Bronze and Iron: Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1988, item 334 for type. 405 grams total, 39cm (15 1/4"). Property of a Guernsey collector; acquired in the UK in the early 1990s. Fine condition.
