1918-1943 AD. A Royal Bulgarian officer's dress sword with slightly curved, fullered and heavily plated blade bearing etched ornament and Cyrillic inscription translating as 'For Czar and Fatherland' one side and crown over monogram of Czar Boris III (Czar 1918 to 1943) to other; fitted with gilt brass stirrup guard hilt bearing Bulgarian arms to face, with lion pommel and lion head to quillon terminal, the pommel with red glass to eyes, the quillon extension bearing raised Maltese cross over crossed swords badge and composition hilt; with original plated scabbard and tassel. 1.2 kg, 94.5cm (37"). Property of an Essex gentleman; formerly in a private collection since the 1980s. Fine condition. Scarce.
