Neolithic, 6th-3rd millennium BC. A ground and polished stone axe-hammer, boat-shaped in plan with straight edge, square butt; unfinished socket partly drilled to upper and lower faces. Cf. Glob, P.V. Danske Oldsager II Yngre Stenalder, Copenhagen, 1952, item 550 for type. 268 grams, 76mm (3"). Property of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old European family collection. Fine condition. Rare.
