A Grand Tour bronze statuette of a faun standing nude with right leg forward, body twisted right and left arm ahead; bearded face with short curling horns and a short tail to the back; standing on an integral square plinth. 320 grams, 13.5cm (5 1/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired on the UK art market. This Grand Tour statuette is based on the famous Dancing Faun statue found in Pompeii in the building subsequently known as the House of the Faun. The Dancing Faun became a favourite subject for reproduction during the 19th and 20th centuries. Fine condition.
