Cross guard, wood handle, brass ferule. Script and numbers "1816" written on side.A unique piece, this design, superficially similar to a bowie knife, was a popular style of hunting and fighting knife in the Spanish Mediterranean, particularly among sailors and pirates. Its presence among Spanish and Mexican communities in the early American southwest is very likely one of the strong influences on Jim Bowie's famous design. This example, with its rustic patina and well set handle and guard is a testament to traditional knife maker's and their craft. Issued: 1816Dimensions: 15.25"L X 3"DCountry of Origin: Spain Condition: Patina and wear consistent with age.
