Henry Irving as Cardinal Wolsey & Ellen Tracy as Queen Catharine.The pair of highly detailed figures were produced showing them in their respective roles in Shakespeare's 'Henry VIII'. Henry Irving as Cardinal Wolsey (13"H) standing figure wearing a robe and cap in highlights of light pink and green. Irving was responsible for reviving the popular interest in Shakespeare. He overcame a stammer to become a great actor and was the first to be knighted. Noke captured Irving's ascetic features perfectly. Ellen Terry as Queen Catharine (12.5"H) on a stepped base wearing a long flowing gown with highlights of light pink and green. Along the side of the base it is inscribed in gold script with "Presented to W.S. Mackie. Esq. by his Colleagues on the Staffordshire Sentinel Sept. 1893." Both figures Impressed 'Noke' with printed 'Doulton Burslem' mark.
