此像底部阴刻“弟子魏开通敬造”款识可知为清代雕师魏开通之作。魏开通清康熙年间人。其师杨璇擅刻人物、印钮等风格独树一帜《闽小纪》中称其雕工为绝技。魏开通师承杨璇擅长人物圆雕佛像造型尤佳佳作多被皇室或名家收藏。现北京故宫博物院亦藏有魏开通雕刻的高山石雕伏虎罗汉像。
