Group of (5) antique wooden carvings from Hindu temples, likely 17th & 18th century; includes a carving of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, two carvings of the Hindu god Ganesha, one carving of Aravan, from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, depicted with pointed canines and moustaches, and one large carving of Narasimha, avatar of the god Vishnu, depicted with the demon Hiranyakashipu in his lap and a devotee standing to his left. Dimensions are: largest - 18 inches long X 10 1/4 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: All pieces are fragments of larger carvings or monuments, with cracks and splits in the wood and damage to the sides and backs; however, the figures are easily recognizable. Provenance: Collected by Hollywood & Broadway set designer Robert Gundlach in the 1950's
