A 'JAMBHALA' THANGKATibet, 19th-20th century96 x 70 cmPainted on fabric with bright colours and gold, the thangka depicting to the centre Jambhala seated on a lion, in the left hand a mongoose and in the right hand a closed sun umbrella, all around a numer of smaller deities.Provenance: Italian private collection, acquired in Tibet in 1982.Jambhala is a popular deity of the Tibetan Buddhism. God of wealth, he is usually related to the Induistic Kubera and to Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of mercy.
