An Indian bronze box Kumkum
Hand-crafted by artisans, this small artistic vintage artwork is a six compartment Kumkum box made of bronze.
These hand-crafted ornate kum kum boxes or "Chopra" as originally known, were used by the ladies of royalty to store makeup and other fashionable items such as eyeliners, vermilion or sindhoor (the red pigment used by married Indian women) and "Bindis "- large colorful dots of cloth for their foreheads.
Provenance: part of a private Belgian collection.
