The hardwood carved Buddha niche is of Buddhist temple design, stands on four short beast legs, the niche's top carved with roof and dragon shaped ridges, retains natural wood color, grain, and patina.|||Height: 34 3/4 in (88.0 cm) Length: 18 5/8 in (47.0 cm) Width: 11 7/8 in (30.0 cm)|硬木佛龕|供奉佛像、神位等的小閣子，如佛龕、神龕等，一般為木製，中國古代的石窟雕刻一般是神龕式，小龕又稱櫝。龕原指掘鑿岩崖為空，以安置佛像之所。據《觀佛三昧海經》卷四記載，一一之須彌山有龕室無量，其中有無數化佛。《大毗婆沙論》卷一七七記載:底沙佛至山上，入吠琉璃龕，敷尼師檀，結跏趺坐，入火界定。現今各大佛教遺跡中，如印度之阿旃塔，愛羅拉，我國雲岡、龍門等石窟，四壁皆穿鑿眾佛菩薩之龕室。後世轉為以石或木，作成櫥子形，並設門扉，供奉佛像，稱為佛龕;此外，亦有奉置開山祖師像。頂上有兩處因年久裂開的痕跡。
