Each vase is finely decorated to the surface, one with two characters reading ‘da ji’ (great luck) and the other reading ‘da li’ (great riches), all surrounded by the Eight Buddhist Emblems on a geometric ground in imitation of cinnabar lacquer. The vase is topped by a finial shaped as a bat decorated with gilt on a faux-black lacquer ground, it is decorated at the waist with a trompe l’oeil ribbon and is moulded with a stand.
