笔筒通景以青花绘饰人物故事图案，一面绘武士及侍从，另一面为两位官人，衣褶流畅，渲染自然。背景衬以洞石草木，水波流云。釉质清亮，青花发色青翠艳丽，浓淡渲染层次分明，纹饰描绘精细。口沿及近足处暗刻卷枝纹、弦纹一周，俗称“暗花边”，此种装饰手法在天启、崇祯时期颇为流行。
