Ca.900- 1100 AD. A Beautiful Viking Scandinavian Silver coiled ring representing the norse myth of Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent. Such rings were traditionally worn by powerful, wealthy individuals and were known as chieftain rings. The silver coil twists around the finger, popular in Viking silver art and coincidentally made to look like snake skin, and its ends modelled to represent the serpent's head and tail. Fine Condition; Inner diameter: 19mm; outer diameter: 18mm ring size UK R; US 99; 8gr; Provenance: Private London collection, formed in the 1990s on the UK and European art market.
