3rd century AD. A gold finger ring with scrolls to the outer face, each with a square hole and reserved letters 'VOTHER'. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 177. 8.32 grams, 23mm overall, 19.45mm internal diameter (approximate size British S 1/2, USA 9 1/2, Europe 21.0, Japan 20) (1"). From a private collection; formed 1965-1975. The legend 'VOTHER' is an abbreviation of votum Herculi meaning 'votive to Heracles' and marking the ring and its wearer as dedicated to the god Hercules.
