A hollow-formed gold finger ring with ellipsoid bezel, inset dark blue glass cloison with intaglio of birds on a baseline. 2.89 grams, 24.36mm overall, 19.26mm internal diameter (approximate size British R 1/2, USA 8 3/4, Europe 19.8, Japan 18) (1"). Property of a gentleman; from a Mayfair, London, UK, gallery; formerly in a 1990s UK collection. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'Glass of this colour was very rare in the Roman period. The owner of this ring probably valued it more highly than a genuine gemstone.'
