Translation provided by Youdao
9th-12th century AD. A bronze coiled ornament with loop finial, formed of twisted rods. Cf. Sedov, B.B. Finno-Ugri i Balti v Epokhi Srednevekovija, Moscow, 1987, pl.9, item 12 for type. 1.5 kg, 20cm (8"). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired on the UK art market. Coiled neckrings were worn by females in the eastern Baltic area from the Iron Age through to medieval times. Items of this weight (1.5 kg) would be too heavy for human use but may have been used to adorn wooden statues of the gods. [No Reserve]
