An 18th/19th century silver gilt rectangular snuff box, the lid inset with a Queen Anne silver medallion Commemorating the Act of Union between England and Scotland May 1st 1707, the lid chased and engraved with dogs and birds within moulded scroll work borders, reeded edge moulding, on plain rectangular base, 3ins x 2.25ins x 0.5ins high, (apparently unhallmarked- weight 3.65ozs), the interior engraved "The gift of her most gracious Majesty Queen Anne to the Rt. Honble. Gen. Wm. Steuart" Note: General Sir William Stewart (1643-1726) was a Scottish born soldier, Commander-in-chief of Queen Anne's Forces in Ireland, MP for County Waterford and a Privy Councillor
