The small object is a grinding stone and is referred to as a pestle. The pestle is rectangular in shape with pronounced edges which is easier to hold in the hand; one end of the pestle has a somewhat pointed end, the other end is flat. I believe the stone is basalt and is of the Late Woodland period in which two important events occur. One is the first appearance of agriculture and the appearance of the bow and arrow. Agriculture led to the manufacture of grinding stones for plants, nuts and other crops.
