8th century BC. A substantial silver statuette of a human-headed bull divinity with head turned to the left, wearing a ribbed headdress, hanks of hair framing the face with square-cut beard, herringbone-patterned bands to the back and flanks; traces of parcel-gilding; peg to the underside for attachment; mounted on a custom-made display stand. Cf. the Louvre Museum, accession number AO 2752 for a similar figure in chlorite. 630 grams including stand, 77mm (3"). From a European collection; previously in a large American collection formed in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1995; previously in the Mansees collection; formed 1950s-early 1990s; supplied with a copy of a detailed metallographic report issued by Prof. Dr. Guido Devoto of the Departmento di Scienze della Terra (Dept. of Earth Sciences) at Universita La Sapienza, Rome, Italy, dated 27th September 1989.
