Late 3rd millennium BC. A group of four bifacial stone seals, all squeezed cylinder shaped, comprising: one with standing quadruped and snake to one side, tree-like shape to the other, one with schematic eagle to one side, to the other a plant or hand surrounded on three sides by a zig-zag border; and two accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (U-60) 'Stamp Seal of Grey Stone, 23 x 18 x 9mm. This is a squeezed cylinder, pierced lengthways. The design on the one face shows a curling snake with open jaws. The other side shows a standing lion with tail above back. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a little worn, but the designs remain clear.'; (U-61) 'Stamp Seal of Brown Stone, 24 x 19 x 7mm. This is a squeezed cylinder, pierced lengthways. The design on the one face consists of two hatched triangles separated by a notched line. The design on the other face is achieved with hatched gouges, and may be a plant or a bird. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is damaged and worn on one side, but the other side is well preserved.' 31 grams total, 23-27 (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers U-60, U-61, U-270, K-83, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
