Description
Translation provided by Youdao
7th century AD. A bronze disc brooch comprising a central motif with right-facing bust with stylised 'hair' based on the Roman diadem surrounded by an outer rim of two concentric ridges; lug and catchplate to the reverse. Cf. Abramson, T. Sceattas: An Illustrated Guide, p.68, Series J, item J120. 9 grams, 29mm (1 1/4"). Found Durham, UK, 2007. This form of bust is found on Series E and J Sceattas. This example is thus a precursor of the Ânummular brooches which become more common in the 10th century.
