5th-7th century AD. A richly decorated gilt bronze bow brooch comprising a rectangular headplate and bow, the headplate comprising a median rectangular panel with inset cabochon garnet and thick raised border surrounded by a U-shaped panel of Style I decoration, with a flat narrow border with punched chevron detailing; carinated bow with a median rib; pin-lug is partly present on the reverse. A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections (Non-Ferrous Metals), BAR British Series 230, 1993, p.123, item 14.9 for the small square-headed brooches from Chatham Lines, Kent. 10.24 grams, 32.74mm (1 1/4").
