Dated 1839 AD. Obv: with engraved 'Part / of the / Royal George / sunk Aug. 29 1782 / Recovered 1839' inscription in five lines. Rev: blank. Edge: deckled. 10.34 grams, 26mm. Property of a Kent, UK collector; acquired on UK market. The HMS Royal George was a 100-gun warship in the British Royal Navy of George III; she sank off Portsmouth, losing over 800 lives. Major-General Charles Palsey recovered guns between 1839-1842; the wreck, being a hazard, was blown up in 1840.
