Circa 1915-1918 AD. Cast iron. Obv: passengers buying tickets at booth manned by a skeleton with GESCHAFT VBER ALLES above and CUNARD / LINE above the ticket window, CUNARD to right and two further lines of text below; KOC in exergue. Rev: ship sinking with KEINE BANN WARE above; DER GROSS DAMPFER / LVSITANIA / DURCH EIN DEUTCHES / [ ] BOOT VERSENKT / 5 MAI 1915 in five lines in exergue; in card box of issue with pictorial label to lid and printed explanatory text label to inside of lid. 82.9 grams total, 54mm. The Cunard liner RMS Lusitania was sunk by German submarine on 7 May 1915 and of the 1,951 passengers and crew on board, 1,198 died; this British copy of the German medal commemorating the event was produced as a propaganda piece.
