embroidery on rubber, sign. and dated right bottom, on cardboard, in wooden frame
Hannalie Taute was born on 13 August 1977 in a small town called Fochville. Matriculated in 1995 at Outeniqua High school in George, and in 2000 she obtained a National Higher Diploma for Fine art at the Nelson Mandela University.
In 2004 she had her first solo exhibition called: ?Siembamba- let?s play pretend? at the Joao Ferreira Gallery in Cape Town. Since 2004 she was involved in several group and solo exhibitions. She received the Kanna award for best visual art production at the 2014 KKNK (Klein Karoo Kunste National ) Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn for her solo exhibition called: ?Rubber ever after?.
After Taute initially focused her attention on working with found objects, especially toys, she started working with rubber (particularly inner tubes) and in 2012 added embroidery to her list of preferred media. By using traditional embroidery techniques unto an unconventional canvas (rubber) she aims to make the familiar unfamiliar.
