LOWER, SOUTH-WESTERN FRANCE, LATE 16th CENTURY box of
walnut molded and carved in low relief,
On a molded base carved with foliage, this box presents on the facade a blank panel of ornamentation framed by two terms - one male, the other female - surmounting a winged angel's head and accompanied by bunches of fruit. A frieze underlines the edge of the flap. In the centre is a winged putto head. On either side are carved floral motifs from which a bird emerges. At the back post a garland of fruit comes out of the mouth of a leafy mask.
