天鸡即凤鸟也，天鸡耳炉有天鸡马蹄炉，花边天鸡彝之分。此炉为变体花边天鸡耳炉，精工巧制，周身施錾刻、配有红木盖钮镂空雕刻龙纹，玲珑剔透。腹部以绳纹分隔，上饰变体莲纹一周，底端圈足亦作垂莲。器身色泽沉古，体量极大，凝重华丽。莲纹与莲瓣之运用颇有魏晋、唐时香熏之风，充满古韵。古人多用香熏在室内熏香净化空气，或熏衣被而保持香气，以示高洁，可谓“燎熏炉兮炳明烛，酌桂酒兮扬清曲。”
