LARGE TRIPOD PERFUME BURNER WITH BRONZE ELEPHANTS WITH BROWN PATINA
China, Qing Dynasty, 18th-19th century
Heavy, it has an inverted belly bell-shaped belly, which rests on three elephant feet / with elephant faces richly harnessed. This first one has two handles, which draw upright elephant trunks emanating from dragon mouths. It is topped by a domed lid entirely openworked with foliage and lotus flower scrolls and topped by a tall lying elephant. On the back of the latter, a vase of multiple symbols including sceptre ruyi, lotus, coral and conch. Notable chiselling work sensitive in the multiplicity of details. Beautiful plastic rendering of the elephants (patina retouched; restoration on the lid; small missing lip).
H: 36.5 cm - W: 26.5 cm - D: 16.5 cm
Comparison: For a perfume burner to the model, see Sotheby's New York, 19/03/2013, lot 340.
