This style of Chinese pottery was such a popular export that it was eventually adapted throughout the majority of European factories (beginning in the 18th century). This dinnerware has a lip lined in gold and encrusted in an ornate and complex over glazed pattern of flowers. The stylization of the flowers is similar to that seen in Chinese export porcelain (which was created for a western audience) however the central medallion which is separated by a red and gold wave pattern, starkly contrasts that of the lip. Depicted in the center of the charger is a traditional Chinese bird motif. Two black birds are depicted. One in the air, its body bending with the dinnerware, the other perched atop a stone which is backed by a tree whose branches too curve with the piece. The reverse face of the charger is elegantly patterned by simple blue line-work and its underside has a red mark within its center. This intermixing of style gives an implication that it was custom made for its owners who desired to impress both an eastern and western audience. Thus putting them in an influential and noteworthy rank in 18th century China. D: 11 1" (27.9 cm) Condition: In good condition with two small chip underside of the rim
