This small and intricate tea caddy was likely once part of a set of Chinese export porcelain. It’s Chinese themes contrasted against its english composition indicates that it was made in the early to mid 18th century. The vessel is rectangular in structure and depicts a landscape drawn in traditional blue, that is mirrored on the tea caddy’s larges sides. The narrow rectangular sides depict and accommodating house and fence which sprawls across the bottom third of the scene. This panel is also mirrored appears to be an extension of the dominate landscape. The base is indicated by a solid gold line which interrupts and covers the bottom of all illustrations seen on the vessel. The bottom rim is unglazed and the top half of the caddy curves into a bridge which is punctuated by the neck of the vessel. The top curving part of the caddy is decorated with a lace like design which is also overlaid with gold. The neck has two gold lines which vignette a gold vine pattern seen in the very middle of the neck. The lid of the caddy has a (still solid gold) orange as a knob/handle. This orange is circled by a blue underglaze lace like pattern which is overlaid with gold. The rim of the lid is also painted in gold and the interior of the lid is unglazed. H: 5 1/4 in.(13.3 cm) D: 3 4” (8.63 cm) Condition: In good condition
