Circle of Juan de Mesa (1583 1627)
Circle of Juan de Mesa (1583-1627)
Child Jesus Glorious
Sculpture in carved and polychrome wood. With golden wood base with ribs.
The child appears in an attitude of blessing and follows the traditional models of the Andalusian School of the beginning of the 17th century. It was Juan Martínez Montañes with his sculpture for the Sacramental Archicofradia of Seville, who in 1607 lays the foundations of the model for Niño Jesús to which his student Juan de Mesa subsequently incorporates elements such as the characteristic moña montañesina, greater naturalism in the posture with a slight contrast and more expressive face.
Height: 60 cms.
