Letter to Ben Oehlert, the ambassador to Pakistan, in full: "It was considerate and very thoughtful of you to send me the information included in your recent letter and telegram. I was pleased to have your views about the qualifications desired in your successor as Ambassador to Pakistan. You may be sure that I shall keep them closely in mind. I will accept your resignation on or before June 20, 1969 as you have requested, and I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to you for the distinguished manner in which you have represented the United States in Pakistan. I appreciate the sacrifice of your personal interests this service has required of you and I thank you both for your generous offer to serve your country again in the future and for your kind and encouraging remarks." Accompanied by a typed draft of Oehlert's 'Special Channel Message' to Nixon. After graduating from the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, Oehlert (1909Â1985) went into private practice and was later hired by the Department of State to work in the Mexican Claims Agency.
