Hand made teapot, creamer and sugar bowl, rimmed in sterling. All sterling silver elements are hallmarked, and attributed to acclaimed London silversmith Charles May. Decorated with Barlow's signature sgraffito style, featuring sheep in landscape, showing a strong and well developed hand by the then well-established creative powers of Barlow- framed within moulded and stylized cobalt blue glazed bands. Impressed with date 1881, and Doulton Lambeth rosette. All pieces are numbered sequentially, and feature the iconic signature of Barlow, along with decorator marks from Alice E. Budden, likely for her exquisite work on the cobalt borders, just a year before she would be promoted to a senior assistant artist in 1882- evidence that her work with Barlow on pieces like this would lead her to greater prominence as an independent artist with Doulton. Artist: Hannah Barlow Issued: c. 1881 Dimensions: 5"H x 8"W, largest Manufacturer: Doulton Lambeth Country of Origin: England
