Two (2) Meyer (Mike) R. Wolfe (New York/California/Tennessee, 1897-1985) lithographs on paper one (1) titled "Acrobats # 3" and one (1) titled "Acrobats # 5" depicting acrobats. Both titled in pencil, lower left, one (1) signed and dated "Meyer Wolfe '50" in pencil, lower left, and one (1) signed and dated "Meyer Wolfe 1951" in pencil, lower left. Artist's signature, address, medium, and title en verso of "Acrobats # 5". Both matted and housed under glass in identical black wooden frames. Sights range in size from 14 1/8" H x 10 1/4" W to 14 3/4" H x 10" W. Framed - 23 3/4" H x 19 5/8" W. Both American, mid 20th century. Artist Biography: Meyer Wolfe was a painter and printmaker born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He studied in Chicago at the Academy of Fine Arts and in New York at the Art Students League under John Sloan, a member of the Ashcan school. Wolfe worked as a newspaper illustrator in New York during the 1920's and in 1926, he went to Paris to train at the Academie Julian under Pierre Lauren. He subsequently resided in San Francisco in 1932, where he exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association, New York City around 1939 when he exhibited a the New York World's Fair, and in Nashville, where he died in 1985. He was married to the photographer Louise Dahl-Wolfe. His works are represented in institutions including the Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Art Museum, and The Frist Center for the Visual Arts.
