A part-glazed ceramic oil lamp with folded nozzle, inset later (19th century?) bronze seal to the underside: arcade with figures adoring a seated bishop with crozier beneath a figure in a tower with winged angels; legend to the border 'S' CAPITVLI:ECCLESIA:SANCTI:HALWARDI:ASLOIA' (seal of the head church of Saint Halvard, Oslo"). 177 grams, 92mm (3 1/2"). Property of a Dutch gentleman; formerly in an old collection formed in the 1970s. St Halvard met an early martyr's death in 1043 AD at the age of 23. [No Reserve]
