A LAPIS LAZULI FIGURE OF SUPERB COLOR DEPICTING SHOULAO, QING China, 1644-1912. Shoulao is carved wearing long, flowing robes and holding two gnarly staves, one with a double gourd bottle attached to it and the other with peaches, flanked by a boy riding a deer and a crane with a lingzhi in its beak. Old collector's number incised to the base. Condition: Excellent condition with old wear, traces of use and only minor nibbling. Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Weight: 2,258 g.
