In 1963 the founder of Lapponia, Pekka Antilla, employed him as his new designer, a role Weckstrom continues to fulfil today. In 1965 Lapponia entered the International Jewellery Contest in Rio de Janeiro and Weckström’s 'Flowering Wall' necklace won the Grand Prix receiving worldwide recognition for the company and himself.
