This lot consists of four thermoplastic cases with photos. The first is a thermoplastic union case with a pair of daguerreotype images depicting two women, possibly a mother and daughter or two sisters. The daguerreotypes are sixteenth plates and come in a black case with a velvet lining that reads “Anson 589 Broadway”, and the floral motif on the outside of the case is repeated on front and back (Krainik 575, Wildflowers). The case has snug clasps, it was made by S. Peck in the 1850‘s, and it measures 3 3/8 x 2 1/16 in. wide. The second case shows a tintype of a young girl in a period dress and bonnet. The tintype is a ninth plate, and the oval case has an embossed cover which portrays a man and woman with a baby in a basket and is titled "Moses Among the Bulrushes" (Krainik 675), and the motif is repeated on front and back. The velvet lining has light wear, and the case has a snug clasp and was made by Littlefield Parsons in the 1850‘s. It measures 2 3/16 x 2 9/16 in. wide. The third case has a tintype of a woman and a lock of hair pinned to the velvet lining, and the tintype is a ninth plate. The case is oval and has embossed covers with a fruit and floral motif that is repeated on front and back (Krainik 679, Fruit and Flowers). There is a small chip near the clasp and a couple of slight nicks on the rim. The case was probably made in the 1850’s and measures 2 15/16 x 2 1/2 in. wide. The last case is an octagonal thermoplastic case from the 1850‘s that has no photo. The image would be a ninth plate. The case has embossed covers with a decorated oval in the center and the motif is repeated on front and back (Krainik 597, Scroll). The velvet lining has slight wear and the case has two hinges and a snug clasp. The case was made by Littlefield Parsons and measures 3 x 2 9/16 in. wide, is in great condition, and suitable for a daguerreotype or other images from the time period.
