This is a patriotic thermoplastic case with a tintype of a young man wearing a suit and bowtie. The tintype is a ninth plate and the figure looks like Tom Cruise - not joking. The embossed covers feature an eagle with a banner in its beak, and the banner reads “Union Forever”. The eagle also holds an American flag in its talons, and the motif is repeated on front and back covers (Krainik 370, Union Forever). The ruby velvet lining has juts a touch of wear, and the clasp is snug. The case was made by Littlefield Parson during the Civil War. There is a nick at the bottom of one corner on the back, and the case is still very attractive. The case measures 3 x 2 9/16 in. wide, and a desirable piece.
