ROCOCO CONSOLE,
Berne ca. 1750/60. By Johann Friedrich Funk I. (1706-1775).
Wood, in part pierced, carved with scrolled leaves, rocailles and latticework, and gilt. Brown/red/grey Marbre de Roche top. Original gilding.
115 x 58 x 88 cm.
Provenance:
- Family von Graffenried, Münchenwiler Castle.
- Collection von Goldschmidt-Rothschild.
- Swiss private collection.
The console by Johann Friedrich Funk I, on offer, plays a particularly important role alongside the famous consoles in the Wildt House, which the talented sculptor and his workshop created in 1766/67. The console on offer has remained in family ownership since the 18th century through direct succession.
Cf. Hermann von Fischer, Fonck à Berne, Berne, 2001, pp. 230 and 231; a comparable console by Funk from the Reinacherhof in Basel, p. 209 (Fig. 373).
