A Pair of Gold Lambayeque Ear Spools Peru, c. 750 – 1375 Each a gold alloy circular sheet with repousse standing figure of Naymlap, the heroic founder-colonizer of the Lambayque Valley, wearing a tunic with ornamental band at bottom, arms raised and holding a feathered fan-shaped object, another similar hangs from each elbow, earrings, a crescentic helmet, and a large feathered arch above. Bird heads (consisting mostly of a large eye and beak) appear at shoulders and a bird appears under each foot, referencing the story that Naymlap turned into a bird upon his death. A circular band with curling wave pattern frames the figure. The sheets are attached to spools made of a heavier and stronger gold alloy. Both in very good condition. Diameters: 3 ½ inches each Weight: 85 grams total HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
